Pinang Ceylon is an improved, virus-free variety of the Mysore banana. It grows 10 to 20 feet high, with moderate cold resistance, and small, high-quality, lady finger bananas that are the #1 favorite in India.
The leaves have black and maroon markings, and young leaves are a pinkish copper color underneath with a red midvein and red coloration on the pseudostem or “trunk.” Bananas grow in 50 lb. bunches and are small, each 4” to 5” long, light yellow, and thin-skinned. They are very sweet and creamy with an excellent flavor and a long shelf life. The sturdy root system of Pisang Ceylon makes it more wind tolerant than many other bananas, and it can be grown in-ground or in containers.
This banana does well in full sun or partial shade with high humidity in rich, well-draining soils. It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11
